Author Biography

Lieutenant Colonel (U.S. Army, Retired) Baumann hails from Olivia, Minnesota, graduated from Thomas Jefferson Senior High School in Bloomington, Minnesota, and is a Distinguished Military Graduate of the University of Minnesota. Commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery in September 1985, he has served in Army units in the United States, Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. He is a veteran of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Science Degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University. Baumann commanded an Army Battalion Task Force in the First Cavalry Division fighting in Baghdad, Iraq from March 2004-March 2005. His Army career spanned 20 years where he served in leadership positions and staff positions from platoon level to Joint & Combined Combatant Staff levels in the U.S. Military. Some of his military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Ranger Tab, the Jungle Expert Badge, Parachutists Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

 

Baumann's post military career has been in Public Education Administration where he has served in various positions including Technology Services, Finance, Business Operations, and School Leadership in large urban and suburban school districts in metro area of Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota.  Baumann also formed an LLC consulting firm, Out Front Leadership, providing consulting on leadership, management, and operations for school districts across the USA.
